Anticipating potential conflicts is important, and there are many verbal and non-verbal clues to be mindful of as situations unfold. Certain occupations are more at-risk of exposure to violence. For example, employees working alone, working late at night, or working in high-crime areas are all more likely to be exposed to an act of violence. Whilst there is no excuse for violence and aggression, it is important to know how best to deal with such instances, or risk the situation escalating. The goal of de-escalation training courses is to provide techniques to calm or defuse the emotional arousal of an angry or aggressive person.
